Josh drove into the compound in his black coated Honda accord 2008 model which his father had gifted him at his Graduation in NSUKKA – University of Nigeria, Enugu state in 2010 where he graduated with Double Honors in Economics and the Overall Best student in the whole 15 faculties and 102 academic departments.
He was no dullard, smart and witty which made the whole school love him aside his Father’s influence in the State. After the graduation he had other plans which his parents did not agree with.
Having a flashback of what happened at the dinning later after his graduation, he hissed and came out of the car heading straight to Lucy’s quarters.
He was about knocking on Lucy’s door when he heard strange sounds and moanings popping. It was a Wednesday evening which means her husband could not be around and she was always the only one in the house days as such.
“Perhaps she’s crying or in pain”, Josh thought to himself and decide to peep before he knows what to do next, only to check through the window as the curtains were up and saw Lucy and the Security Guard in an awkward state.
He walked away angrily feeling it was not the tract afterall, since their God did not mind the Always Praying married Lucy having sex with the security guard. He was angry, irritated yet confused as to what to do next, there was no one else he could turn to. Jesus was out of the picture since Lucy has proven otherwise.
Just as he walked to his quarters, there was a beep on his cellphone. It was a message from his little sister, Flora. “I know of a specialist who should be able to help out bro, pleeeeaaaaseee call him – 0810027500 Dr. Azhime, Lil sis loves you always”. Josh wore a dry smile having seen the message, “that’s a head start”. He said to himself.
He had been in communication with his little sister but on a low profile. She had always supported her brother privately as he won’t allow her to walk the same path he had chosen.
The only daughter and last born of the Azikwe’s Family, Flora C. Azikwe.
A fresh graduate from Covenant University, one of the best in Africa, where she graduated with double honors in Medicine and Surgery just like her brother but with immediate international offers as she was exceptional in her faculty.
The Azikwe’s Family had just two kids, as the doctor had advised them not to consider childbirth as an option anymore after her birth. There were complications and it was a miracle that both mother and daughter survived the operation. Both of them were naturally intelligent and outspoken as they took after their parents who were both professionals in their field.
After three weeks of going for therapy, Josh ended each session without positive changes as every prescription and counsel proved futile. There was no session he didn’t sleep off in the middle of a conversation.
The Doctor had sincerely put all his best to it yet nothing changed.
He woke up 6pm during one of the sessions, stormed out of the office making up his mind to commit suicide since nothing could save him, not even hundreds of thousands savings he had plans for! Then he bumped into Simi who gave him the tract!
He was happy yet ashamed as he had only met Simi once and his actions were not manly nor friendly. He remembered how he had snubbed the ever smiling Simi, not that she wasn’t beautiful but she was too smart for him, oh! She’s the flawless caramel-colored, petite frame, African Model Lady, everything he is intellectually but much better. She was calm and collected, of same class yet something was different about her, She is a Christian too.
There must be something about that their Jesus, he would rather go for Simi’s Jesus than Lucy’s, he thought to himself.
Simi on the other hand was happy as it was heavily written on her face, not bothered about how he had reacted the last time they met.
She had chosen to follow Mide (Josh’s best friend) her childhood friend to the Stadium and in the middle of their first hand conversation she gave a biblical answer to Josh’s question, which turned him off.
Not relenting she had given Josh one of the tracts she had brought with her to the Stadium, which she planned to share as the show was ongoing with everyone she comes in contact with.
They exchanged pleasantries and within few minutes they got talking, Josh got to know and respect her for her core values. She had come to see her Uncle, she said.
“Wait, do you mean Dr. Azhime is your uncle?”, Josh asked
“Yes”, she said smiling, “and what brings you here?”, she said.
Josh knew this was his only chance to talk as he was becoming restless and Simi had commented on his change in physique since they last met, “you don’t look too good, hope all is well, forgive my curiosity Josh”
“To be sincere, I’ve not been myself in the past few days Simi, from one trouble to another and the most disturbing of them is my sleeping format, it’s as if I’m on the wrong planet. Apart from that, there’s a vacuum in my heart that I’ve been trying divers means to fill up but remains insatiable, this has started way back, the sleeping episode started the day we all went to the Teslim Balogun stadium and the vacuum since I graduated. Don’t know if it’s my actions that have brought this menace or I’m just under a curse, I can’t seem to identify its source”.
Simi kept listening carefully and attentively to all his story but praying in her mind as usual for the next course of action as they sat in a restaurant adjacent the clinic.
“Simi, I know I did something terrible on that day but I can’t tell if that’s the source of my present predicament or something else entirely”.
Josh went ahead to narrate how he had used the tract Simi gave to him, what happened aftermath, the crisis in the office to LUCY and how he ended up in her uncle’s clinic.
After awhile, Simi broke the silence letting him know that she was aware of what he did with the tract and that she had been praying for him since they parted ways. She then shared a few scriptures with him, encouraging him that it’s not a death sentence but a call from Jesus, if he was ready to pick up.
Josh sighed heavily as he felt all his questions both past and present had been answered in less than fifteen minutes.
After Simi prayed for Josh that evening, he couldn’t contain the joy he felt in his soul, the restaurant had become a place of encounter for Josh.
Simi saw him off to the car as she still needed to see her Uncle.
Josh was still thinking of whom to share this new found love with when his sister call came in.
